FIRST KPB SHOW AND SALE


The first Kerry Bog Pony Show and Sale took place in a field 
by the bog at the Red Fox Inn, Glenbeigh, Co Kerry on Saturday  
October 6th.  There was a great entry of  35 out of a total registered 
population of  less than 200 registered ponies.  

Show Champion was Bog Birch a 10 year old mare, by Flashy Fox 
out of Birch Bog Lady.  The winner was owned by Mary McGrath, 
Curragh, Co Kildare and bred by John Mulvihill.  
Reserve Champion was a black filly foal by Flashy Fox out of Bog Jessie 
owned and bred by John O’Shea, Claghane, Ventry Co Kerry. 

Trophies of Tipperary Crystal were presented to the prizewinners and a 
special presentation of Crystal was made to Society Chairman Dr Leo Curran 
by Barry Rynhart of Tipperary Crystal.

The Sale took place immediately after the Show with Auctioneer Dan McCarthy    
from Kenmare Mart taking the rostrum.  Twenty eight ponies were entered.  
Top price of the day was Euro 3200 for the reserve champion filly foal 
which was bought by a gentleman from Northern Ireland.  
Ten other animals sold at auction at an average price of Euro 2000 for 
mares in foal  and several other deals were concluded after the event.  
There was a large attendance on the day with the Blessing of the Ponies 
conducted by Rev Fr Fleming PP Killorglin.  Rumour has it that
he was also responsible for the fine weather.   
The people of the Kingdom did the rest with great good humour 
and the 2008 show is eagerly awaited.
